Child Individual Therapy (3-12yrs)

Children are more limited in their ability to express themselves verbally, but through play they can show what they think, feel and how they experience and understand the world in which they live. Just as adults talk things out, children play things out, and my training as a play therapist allows me to understand and speak the language of children, giving me access into how they view the world around them. Since play is the natural means of expression for children, toys become their words and play therapy becomes a safe and effective form of therapy for them to process their fears, worries, traumas and learn healthier coping skills.

Teen  & Adult Therapy

Although verbal counseling is the typical style of therapy utilized with adults and adolescents, at times it is challenging to explore difficult issues relying solely on the power of the spoken word. Talking about thoughts & feelings is still a very important part of the process, however when words aren't enough, experiential activities can help an individual explore their internal pain and confusion. Within the safety of the therapeutic relationship, images can be created through sandtray, drawing, painting, collage, poetry, music, photography, and any other form of expressive art you may feel comfortable with. By utilizing visual images for self expression, unconscious feelings and attitudes emerge, the conscious mind becomes more aware and stimulated, facilitating psychological transformation and healing of past pain and trauma.

Family Therapy

When conducting a family session with children, it will typically include some form of Family Play Therapy activity.

What does that mean? It means that instead of having a family spend 55 minutes in a room simply talking, some form of play may be incorporated. Play helps remove barriers, relaxes tension and creates a fun and safe environment where we can address difficult emotions and challenges in non-threatening or blaming ways. Working together in a relaxed setting facilitates the discovery of creative solutions to on-going problems and stimulates deeper family connections.

Parenting Support

I believe parents are an integral part to the healing of their children, and I am committed to helping you find the best approach to enhance the relationship between you and your child. No two families are the same, and I will take the time to get to know you, your strengths, your history, as well as your child's and together we will develop different strategies to help you form a closer, trusting, loving parent-child relationship.
